10/1/2002 - Solid Information Technology, the leading distributed data management provider, announced that it is working with the leading European computer company, Fujitsu Siemens Computers to provide highly available and highly scalable solutions by embedding Solid FlowEngineTM technology in Fujitsu Siemens Computers’ RTP4 (Resilient Telco Platform) Continuous Services middleware. By integrating Solid’s distributed and embeddable data management software into its middleware, Fujitsu Siemens Computers offers telecom equipment manufacturers and independent software vendors (ISVs) the ability to provide carrier-grade products to service providers that demand 99.999 percent availability.
Use of this joint solution will enable telecom manufacturers and service providers to quickly implement their services in a more cost-effective manner. The ultra-high availability will help them create new value-generating services that are critical to the success of network and service providers worldwide. Solid and Fujitsu Siemens Computers are jointly marketing this solution on a global basis.
"The joint solution by Solid and Fujitsu Siemens Computers is a significant enabler for telecom equipment manufacturers and ISVs. These kinds of efficient and highly functional solutions have been hard to come by," said Joshua Greenbaum, principal, Enterprise Applications Consulting, Daly City, CA. "By providing carrier-grade solutions with 99.999 percent availability, Solid and Fujitsu Siemens Computers are poised to support the market’s critical computing applications."
Solid Powers RTP4 Continuous Services Middleware
The Fujitsu Siemens Computers RTP4 Continuous Services middleware provides a robust environment for critical business applications requiring 99.999 percent availability. Solid FlowEngine stores configuration and other internal data used by RTP to support this availability requirement. Fujitsu Siemens Computers selected Solid’s technology because Solid FlowEngine has a small footprint and is an embeddable database that requires fewer main memory resources than other database solutions. Through the use of the Hot Stand-by feature, single points of failure are avoided. Ease of administration of Solid’s database technology is an important feature in the embedded database approach. Also, Solid supports ODBC and JDBC standards, is available on Linux and UNIX systems, and works well with Linux and UNIX clusters in various configurations.
"Solid’s proven embeddable, distributed data management solution made it easy for us to implement configuration data management that fulfills our stringent requirement for 99.999 percent availability within RTP4 Continuous Services," said Jens-Peter Seick, Executive Director Line of Business UNIX, Fujitsu Siemens Computers. "This solution will provide tremendous value to our customers — telecom equipment manufacturers and ISVs — that need to get to market quickly and more effectively, yet also have access to the highest availability middleware available today."
"Solid and Fujitsu Siemens Computers are offering telecom system providers next-generation middleware today. We’re happy to be chosen as the only data management vendor that could quickly and cost-effectively bring 99.999 percent availability to this important Fujitsu Siemens Computers product," said Malcolm Colton, vice president of marketing, Solid. "We look forward to conducting successful joint marketing and sales efforts as our joint solution is implemented worldwide by top telecom providers."
About Solid FlowEngine
Solid FlowEngine is a carrier-class distributed data management platform made up of two tightly coupled components: an embeddable, lightweight database management system and a patented database synchronization technology. This optimized combination creates an easy-to-manage platform that can be used to move information through the infrastructure of a distributed enterprise, or move information to and from devices. Solid FlowEngine lets users create synchronized replica databases in order to provide a high degree of robustness and scalability to delegate computing autonomy or support loosely connected users and devices. Designed so that it can be easily embedded in unattended devices and applications, Solid FlowEngine can be concealed inside an application, delivering a compelling low total cost of ownership (TCO).
