New Savvi SR Signaling Router From RadiSys: First to Combine Multiple Cost-Saving Signaling Technologies in a Single Gateway

10/1/2002 - RadiSys announced the new Savvi SR Signaling Router, the latest in the company's portfolio of Savvi SS7/IP gateway products. The Savvi SR is the first standards-based product available today that enables service providers to reduce costs across their signaling networks through signaling link consolidation, flexible network routing and Short Message Services (SMS) off-load.

Service providers are faced with mounting economic pressures to reduce expenses across their signaling networks. RadiSys' Savvi SR can help providers realize cost savings by:

  • Increasing efficiency of existing signaling links. By consolidating multiple, underused narrowband SS7 links into a single SS7 circuit, customers STP port charges and circuit costs are reduced.
  • Connecting their signaling links to IP virtual High Speed Links rather than traditional SS7, thereby improving throughput to M2PA-enabled SCPs and STPs.
  • Reducing congestion of SS7 signaling networks caused by increased volumes of Short Message Services (SMS) traffic by migrating SMS traffic from SS7 circuits onto less expensive IP transport.

At the core of the Savvi SR's flexibility is STP (MTP-3 transfer) functionality, providing standard SS7 routing and simultaneously enabling link concentration. By coupling this with M2UA and M2PA, the Savvi SR further interworks with both IP edge devices and core IP-enabled signaling points, and creates a turnkey solution for IP signaling off-load.

"The Savvi SR is further proof of our commitment to provide tools that enable service providers to reduce costs across their entire signaling networks," said Seamus Gilchrist, vice president for RadiSys. "The Savvi SR is a single solution that facilitates consolidation of underused SS7 circuits, convergence of remote M2UA signaling links and connection to IP virtual HSL links via M2PA."

About Savvi SS7/IP Gateways
The Savvi SR is the is the newest addition to the company's family of Savvi SS7/IP gateways which include the Savvi ST Tunneling Gateway, the Savvi SX Signaling Extender and the Savvi SG Signaling Gateway. Savvi SS7/IP gateways are fully integrated SS7/IP gateways that transport SS7 messages over IP using Sigtran-compliant technologies, including SCTP coupled with M2PA, M2UA and M3UA. Savvi Gateways are built upon a NEBS Level 3 certified telco-grade, CompactPCI 1U (1.75" high) 19" rack mount chassis, and support either AC or DC power and up to eight T1/E1 interfaces. The gateways support numerous SS7 variants including ANSI, ITU-T and China, and include an integrated "Drop&Insert" grooming facility on all links.

Savvi gateways can be configured and provisioned through a serial/console port or Telnet via a command line interface, or through an embedded Java/Web GUI. They also support SNMP v2 for Traps and statistics.

About RadiSys
RadiSys (Nasdaq: RSYS) designs and manufactures building blocks, platforms and applications subsystems for medical, industrial automation, and next-generation communications equipment. As the leading independent provider to OEMs, RadiSys delivers a time-to-market advantage in a tight "virtual division" relationship with its customers. The span of products ranges from board-level components such as processors, network interfaces, and packet processing engines, to communications middleware software such as signaling and networking protocol stacks, to platforms based on PCI, CompactPCI, and switch-fabrics, to services such as NEBS certification and software and microcode professional services, all the way up to private-label gateway systems. RadiSys' highly differentiated position in the market is a result of its intense focus on Intel-based technology, having the broadest array of building blocks, and a "perfect fit" product development strategy using intellectual property to design customer subsystems.
