Brooktrout Technology Executive to Address Emerging Applications and Architectures at Fall VON Conference

10/1/2002 - Brooktrout’s Senior Product Manager for IP Telephony, James Rafferty, will participate in two speaking sessions at the upcoming Fall VON conference. On October 9, Mr. Rafferty will participate on a panel addressing conferencing over VoIP. Mr. Rafferty will discuss the various aspects of conferencing over VoIP including building blocks for these systems, advanced features, applications and potential future services.

On October 10, Mr. Rafferty will speak as part of a panel on the newest PICMG initiative, the Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture (ATCA). The goal of the ATCA effort is to support the development of standard open system elements such as backplanes, power distribution, systems management and resource cards in order to enable high levels of scalability that can be applied to a variety of telecommunications applications. Mr. Rafferty will review the pros and cons of backplane and switch fabric alternatives, systems management considerations, and software migration issues.

Mr. Rafferty was a major contributor to the recently approved Annex F of the ITU-T H.248 Media Gateway Protocol and participates in related work in the Megaco working group of the Internet Engineering Task Force. In addition to his Megaco/H.248 work, he has also contributed to the ITU-T T.38 Annexes, which support the IETF Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) and H.248. Mr. Rafferty continues to be active in IETF and ITU activities related to Voice over IP and related protocol, and was recently the Working Group Chair for the Internet Fax working group of the IETF.
