1/28/2002 - TriQuint Semiconductor, Inc. (Nasdaq: TQNT) today announced that its subsidiary, Sawtek Inc., received its first pre-production order for a surface acoustic wave, or SAW, sensor array from BAE Systems. The SAW sensor array acts as the heart of a chemical agent detector that is used to determine if chemical warfare agents or toxic industrial compounds are present. As the prime vendor for the Joint Chemical Agent Detector (JCAD) program, BAE Systems could deliver up to 268,000 units to the U.S. government and other allied countries over the next three years. This is an exciting high volume opportunity where SAW technology can be used in a non-traditional application.
