Leveraging VxWin Technology into Next Generation IndraLogic V Soft PLC

Open PLC system family

Thanks to their high-performance combination of control, visualization and communication, IndraLogic V all-in-one solutions represent an interesting economic alternative to controller- or drive-based systems. They have all the advantages of the open PC world coupled with those of internationally-recognized standards in device technology, communication and visualization. In this way, users enjoy complete freedom to visualize applications, and the scalability of both performance and function makes it possible to fulfill even the most divergent requirements.

The entire language set and range of functions defined in IEC61131-3 are available for programming the PLC logic. IEC 6113-3 has emerged as the standard for the programming languages of programmable logic controllers. It has been accepted and is demanded by users throughout the world, and is supported by leading automation providers.

"This makes it possible to reuse program components or entire programs at all levels of automation much to the delight of the company, because this reduces engineering costs considerably," explains Norbert Sasse.

A certified library with PLC open-compliant motion components supplied with the systems provides the basis for transparent implementation of drive functions into PLC programs. In addition to offline simulation, developers can also access a variety of online functions, such as monitoring, debugging and forcing through an intuitive, user-friendly interface.

Users can choose from three variants, covering different requirements. The IndraLogic VE embedded, PC-based PLC system family targets applications requiring low-cost operation and monitoring. It is scalable with different display sizes based on the IndraControl VEP control platform. It features program memory of 12 MB and has a retained data memory of up to 256 kB (Flash) so it can process up to 16 tasks simultaneously. Standard and high-end industry PCs IndraControl VSP and VPP are used in the IndraLogic VS and VP. They offer particularly high reliability because their specially designed hard drives can withstand vibration up to 1g and shock of up to 15g. This assures reliable operation even in harsh industrial environments with 24MB of program memory, they can process up to 32 tasks simultaneously and archive data on the hard drive. With a minimal cycle time of just 30 µs for 1,000 instructions in IL with mixed bit-word processing, they are breaking records. An uninterruptible power supply ensures maximum data security. IndraLogic VS, VP and VPP21 all aim for the top performance bracket, where high processing speed and software functionality are the main priorities.

Applications using IndraLogic VPP21 are found in BOSCH manufacturing, assembly and inspection systems. Flexible configuration for different batch sizes, fast retooling and short downtimes are important requirements here. Seamless continuity with open interfaces and full compliance with the PLC standard IEC 61131-3 is proving its worth when it comes to standardized automation of assembly cells with control and visualization.
